Mwah!

That’s for you!  From me.  A big kiss from the vibrant (and currently very sunny) city of London.

As I write this, I am enjoying my 2nd week in London.  But as you read it, I will have moved on and will be discovering the delights of Geneva, Switzerland.

Oh how good it feels to be back out there exploring this wonderful world.

You know – I’m no different to you and I understand just how easy it is to get ‘stuck in a rut’.

It happens to most of us at different times of our lives.  And I am certainly not immune to the experience.  Sometimes I notice it – I become aware that I’m ‘stuck’ – other times I don’t.  I become so acquainted with my daily routine, that I can ‘coast’ through life without any need to engage.  It’s kind of like ‘active sleepwalking’.

But having moved to a new city, faced with new routines, and new challenges – then it shakes everything up.

And I’m starting to realise just how much I LOVE that feeling.
Just how much I thrive in that place of curiosity and uncertainty.

Today as I write, I invite you to take a look at your life.
Take a look at the things you do each day, each week, each month.
What are you most looking forward to about this day?
What are you most looking forward to about this week?
Have you settled too comfortably into the routine of your life?
Do you find yourself automatically saying NO, or searching for an excuse, when a friend invites you to try something new?

If you could do anything, anything at all – what would you be celebrating 12 months from now?

Many years ago, when I was working in Glasgow, I had a colleague who faithfully purchased his lottery ticket every week.  In fact, he became particularly excited by the prospect of winning the Euro-millions.  When I asked him what he would do with the money, he told me he would buy a place in France so that he could spend the summer holidays with his family.

Well that is extremely noble of him, but you know… he most likely didn’t need to win the lottery in order to spend the summers in France with his family.  Rather than just wishing and dreaming, he could develop a plan. And take ACTION.

Make it happen.

And that is what I want to talk to you about today.

ACTION!

I have a dear friend – she is in her early 50s and for the last 20 years, has been telling me about her plans to retire at 55 and relocate to Spain. Will she move in 3 years’ time?

Well I have absolutely no idea, but as I see it, there are certainly things that she could be doing now, today.  ACTION she could be taking that would increase the likelihood of her bringing her dream to life.

So let’s stick with this example and have a think about some of the things that she could be doing in the 3 remaining years before she turns 55.

💎 Learning to speak Spanish

💎 Starting to get clear and detail her requirements in respect of property

  • House or apartment?
  • City centre or more rural location?
  • No of bedrooms?
  • In a neighbourhood where there are already British expats?
    Or mostly Spanish inhabitants?

💎 Carry out some ‘desk’ research to get some ideas about ‘where’ in Spain she may like to live.

💎 When potential locations have been identified, plan some long weekend breaks (over the next 12 – 24 months), go experience them.

💎 Start to consciously ‘de-clutter’ in her current home. Moving home is a great opportunity to cleanse all the ‘excess’ stuff that we accumulate over time. She doesn’t have to wait until year 3 to start that process.  She can start now.

💎 Financial

  • How much will it cost to buy the new home in Spain?
  • How will she fund the purchase?

💎 What plans (if any) to generate income when she moves?

  • Is there anything that she can be doing now in order to prepare? For example – maybe there is some training that she could invest in?

💎 Calculate the cost of the move

  • Selling the current home
  • External storage requirements?
  • Physical transfer of goods to the new home in Spain
  • Other/associated costs

💎 Set up a new/separate bank account.

  • Call it the SPAIN fund
  • Set up a monthly standing order in order to cover costs related to the move.
  • It’s amazing the psychological impact of doing this.  As the money starts to grow in her SPAIN fund, she will soon realise that she really can make this happen.

You see how it starts to develop?  Just think of it like you would handle a work project. Every day when you go to work you are thinking through complex projects, detailing key steps required and developing timeframes. Just treat this in the same way.  Don’t worry if the items are not in order.  You can change them later.  The most important thing is to get started.

Turn it from a dream into a PLAN and take ACTION.

So what is your dream?

Is there something different that you would love to do with your life?  But too busy and don’t have time to act?

Well this is YOUR life.   Own it 💎

And allow me to introduce you to ‘The 15 minute miracle’.

Take a few moments now to think about your goal and write down 10 things that have to be done in preparation for this change in your life.

NOW – Commit to 15 minutes per day EVERY SINGLE DAY to work on your list – starting with item 1.

When item one is complete, move on to item 2.

Do something every single day to move you towards your goal.

One phone call, one 15-minute language lesson, 15 minutes spent updating your CV, 15 minutes per day learning a new skill, writing your book, or clearing out at home in preparation for sale.

By the end of each month, you will have invested more than 7 hours in you and your goals.

In one year, close to 100 hours.

You see?   That’s the miracle 💎

Those 15 minutes of consistent activity add up over time and can generate a real momentum in bringing your dreams to life.

Surely all of us can commit to 15 minutes per day?
If you really want this dream of yours, you will make it happen.
And you will be amazed at just how quickly the momentum develops once you get started.

If you are willing to share with me what your dream or goal is, I’d love to hear from you. PM me and let me know.

But in the meantime – what are you waiting for?
Set the timer for 15 minutes and get started.

Brainstorm your list – 10 things you need to do in order to bring your dream to life.
