There’s something fabulous happens when a woman turns forty.
When men turn 40, often-times it signals a descent into crisis.
They have more of a tendency to go ‘off the rails’ and make decisions that transport them back to their youth… leaving a wave of destruction in their path.

But for us women – something truly liberating happens and we get to reclaim our TRUE SELVES. We know who we are, we don’t have to dance to someone else’s tune – we can choose to do things our way.
As I celebrated my first ever birthday in the antipodean sunshine, it struck me that turning 40 meant I had crossed a thresh-hold.
I had arrived! I was FREE! I didn’t have to work so hard to ‘prove myself’ to anyone.
I was already successful in my career and I was no longer concerned what anyone had to say about my choices.
Now I could be unapologetically ME. It was time to have fun.
And with that single change in mindset, I started to see things and opportunities quite differently. I was more open to the adventurous and daring. At any other point in my career, I feel certain I would have turned down the opportunity to relocate to Shanghai but turning 40 meant it was a risk that I was prepared to take …. And ultimately, the single/best decision I ever made in my life.
On the day of my 40th Birthday, a few friends and I took a boat and spent the day on the beautiful Waiheke Island in New Zealand, just hanging out and having fun. To this day, it remains one of the funniest days of my life! The highlight of the day being when the firemen turned up to deal with a small fire in the bar where we had taken root in the patio area all day long.

Turning 40 is also a great time for reflection. It’s a kind of ‘mid way’ point in life. A chance to look back at all that we have achieved so far .. and an opportunity to look forward to the next 40 years. More specifically – the next 20 (the working years).
It’s a good time to ask YOURSELF…
Am I happy?
Am I happy at home? Am I happy at work?
Am I happy enough to continue in this role for another 20 years?
Am I living a truly fabulous life?
If money (and title) were not an issue… would I choose to do this for the next 20 years?
If I won the lottery tomorrow, would I go back to work?
Would I go back to my CURRENT job or would I do something different?
They say that life begins at 40 and I believe that not a truer word was ever written.
